You raise very good points. Yes, standardized tests are as much to blame as anything for the problem with our educational system. This notion of wanting "measurable indicators" in neatly packaged numbers to determine if "good education" has taken place.... oh it does make my blood boil.

So, yes, education that includes "critical thinking"....would require some critical thinking outside the box on new ways to evaluate student progress. I have no answer for that one. One thing is for sure though, the last people to turn to for an answer on that would be a politician.. or school board member for that matter.

I would probably begin by asking teachers "what do you think and what do you suggest?" Sad how rarely anyone seems to think to do that.
