The first half of that sentence has tangible evidence to back it up. The second half of that sentence has no tangible evidence to back it up (and a fair bit of evidence against it).

Forgive me if I add to "pig" and "cad" the phrase "PT Barnum liar." He will do what evidence has shown he always does -- give handouts and preference to the super-wealthy and lip service to everyone and everything else. And "trickle-down economics" has been proven by data not to work, so big new tax cuts for the wealthy will do nothing for "national and individual independence" for anyone making an ordinary wage.

You are 100% right that nobody should be endlessly stuck in a state of dependence on government handouts and help (which is part of the reason I'm not a member of the Democratic Party, because several of their economic policy ideas range from naively stupid to potentially deeply harmful). The notion, however, that the modern incarnation of "conservative" is any better (which also has next to nothing to do with what conservative used to mean, i.e., to act fiscally responsibly) is just wishful thinking at best, willful blindness at worst.

Sorry. No personal insult intended. I just feel both Democrats and Republicans are going to drive America collectively off a cliff. But also that Republicans currently have their foot pressing down much harder on that gas pedal.
