Justice Clarence Thomas Should Resign or Be Impeached
Playing fast and loose with financial disclosure laws should not be tolerated, so why should he only get a wrist slap?
If you were initially yawning over the news of lavish gifts by a GOP billionaire to Justice Clarence Thomas, I forgive you. To tell you the truth, when the first dribbles of news broke, I did indeed yawn. I mean, really, a Republican flashing cash and a Justice of the Supreme Court hobnobbing with him on a yacht seemed like news that wasn’t even news, right? That is just how Republicans and conservatives roll, right? To be expected, right?
Wrong. The devil is in the details, and if you have missed the details, you have missed a huge story. Upon close inspection, the ethics violations are incredibly blatant and the cover-up attempted by Justice Thomas clearly deliberate.
The latest revelation about the real estate transaction, however, elevated what were violations of ethical conduct to a matter of actual violation of the law concerning requirements for financial disclosures.
