Justice Alito’s Dissent on the Abortion Pill Contains A Shocking Breach of Decorum

So shocking that even Justice Thomas didn’t sign on to it and dissented separately

The devil is in the details. Yes, the big news on Friday, April 21st, was that the Supreme Court ruled to pause the lower court’s abortion pill restrictions. This ruling was not on the merits, of course. It simply allows the case to now move through the judicial process, probably ultimately landing at the Supreme Court in the future.

Yes, it was good news that there was at least a pause on the abominable miscarriage of justice by District Court Judge Kacsmaryk. He had ruled from the bench to eliminate access nationwide to one of the two abortion drugs, mifepristone. It is a relief that SCOTUS at least paused that outrage.

As it was merely a stay, there was no need for an opinion to be written. Justice Alito, however, decided to write a dissent. Interestingly, Justice Thomas opted to simply note that he dissented, but said nothing more.
