I’ve have often come to feel lately that I need a “safe space away from ‘safe spaces’” and you have cogently expressed exactly why I feel that way. People have become so focused on the meaning of “argument” as being an angry exchange, such that if you dare to express an opinion contrary to theirs, they assume you have just tossed a personal insult at them. So many people (particularly young people) seem to have forgetten the other meaning of the word “argument”: A reason or set of reasons given with the aim of persuading others. Thank you for your “argument” in that latter sense of the word. I myself might quibble a little with some of the finer points, but I salute your right to make these points, and welcome that, as it is all good food for thought. And it sure seems like young people display severe anorexia when it comes to food for thought.
