An interesting and informative read, and I appreciate your perspective.
I myself am not a Christian, but I had through most of my life expressed respect for Christianity. However, the recent rapid escalation of very out-in-the-open Christian nationalists who clearly state their aim to be to take over the government and enforce "Christian law" and return this country to being the "Christian nation the Founders intended" has all put me back on my heels, forced me into a defensive position .... and ultimately, to my very great sadness, has caused me to start really lashing out and attacking some Christians, attacking some churches (attacking most particularly the Catholic Church, though that is partly for personal reasons -- my husband divorcing me as an evil unbeliever as he moved on to join the Catholic Church).
I do not enjoy anger. I do not enjoy fights. I would much rather peacefully coexist with everyone. Christian nationalists are bringing out the worst in me. I do not want to fight ... but I feel I have to as a matter of self-defense and self-preservation (as a bisexual woman who supports reproductive rights and who is horrified by book banning, etc.).
It does honestly seem to me that Christians are destroying Christianity. Our whole society loses because of that. I truly do miss the kind, friendly, charitable, tolerant and non-judgemental Christians I knew in my youth ....
It is just a tragedy all the way around.
